I got distracted from doing... pretty much anything yesterday, thanks to citalopram withdrawal (no big deal, I just ran out of meds and wasn't able to get new ones for a couple days). This means I am behind schedule on my Fringe rewatch (as well as, y'know, everything else I need to do). MAINLINING ALL THE EPISODES, HERE WE GO.

Fringe 1x02 "The Same Old Story"

I think this is my least favorite episode of the entire show. It is kind of interesting now in light of "Immortality", but is pregnancy horror ever a good idea? EVER?

HELLO, EXPOSITION MAN. I mean... Broyles.

Oh, Liv. Put away the files, hon. Go to sleep. (I know this is pretty much impossible for her. It's just also sad.)

Peter is so cute when he's sleepy. He's also cute in general this early in the show. When he is cranky and grumbly about everything. ---OH GOD WE'RE BACK TO TOTALLY UNNECESSARY EXPOSITON.

"I've never seen a feature like this before. It warms your ass. Wonderful! Have you tried it?"
Oh, Broyles. SO TOTALLY LOST WHEN IT COMES TO DEALING WITH WALTER.

Pffffft, Peter just made the best disgusted face at the dead lady. I never noticed that before.

"Loraine Daisy Alcott." "Loraine Daisy. That's just sad..."

I love how Olivia works out problems by talking out loud, going over what she knows by telling someone else who doesn't know - I wonder if she did that before, with John, or if it's recent, since Peter had to actually ask her to talk him through it this time. I also love how SQUEAMISH Peter is. "Oh, 'kay, that's... enough. You can stop right now."

Peter really like saying "magic old man baby". Can't really blame him. It's kind of hilarious, and it has a nice rhythm to it.

"You kept quiet even though you didn't approve." "I hadn't seen you that happy in a long time."
BEST BROTHERTHING. ♥ ♥ :C :C :C

And oh, Olivia. EVERY BAD THING IN THE WORLD IS ALL HER FAULT AND NO ONE CAN TELL HER OTHERWISE. I'm not gonna lie, I am a sucker for that as a character trait. I just don't usually find it in female characters, and it makes me so happy when I do. (It's like Olivia Dunham was designed as a gift SPECIFICALLY FOR ME, I swear. She hits all my favorite character buttons so hard. :D :D :D)

"Friend of yours?" "Oh. I certainly hope not."
And Peter is just. Totally unperturbed to discover his father has a hand in a jar.

"You may be able to reanimate dead guinea pigs or... whatever, but I can bring anything mechanical back from the dead."
AHAHAHAHAHA that line is so horrible in retrospect. AUGH, PETER, WHYYYYY.

FFFFF, I hate when Astrid ends up asking the stupid questions just so Walter and/or Peter can explain. I mean... I guess someone has to, and not everyone knows what various parts of the brain do, but IT IS THE PITUITARY GLAND. YOU HAVE A MAGIC OLD MAN BABY. IS THIS REALLY A HARD CONNECTION TO MAKE? DOES IT NEED EXPLAINED?

I flinch every time anyone offers Olivia a cup of tea, thanks to fucking William Bell. EVERY. DAMN. TIME. BASTARD.

Lesson Number Two of Fringeverse: EVERY WEIRD THING IN THE WORLD IS WALTER'S FAULT. EVERYTHING.

"When was it you lost your imagination, son?" "Alright, you wanna play? Let's play."
This whole conversation. Every conversation like this, really. Just... oh, Peter. ♥ SO YOUR FATHER'S SON.

...this room with the giant pictures of tulips on the walls is so creepy for some reason. Maybe it's just that the scene as a whole is creepy - OH HEY THE PICTURES ARE CHANGING. I can't tell into what. Probably other flowers. Aaaaand more pregnancy horror yaaaaay. :| Though this could be a weird flash of precognition to "Immortality" on Olivia's part. Not that she's ever shown any other signs of being able to do that, but I see no reason it couldn't be...

"Stay there." "That's just not gonna happen."

I like that Peter just does not hesitate to shoot at the guy when he makes a run for it. Doesn't actually hit him, but I appreciate that he actually tried and didn't pause before doing it.

And Walter is just so totally chill about talking Peter through MacGyvering a defibrillator. But so adorably pleased when it works. ♥ ♥ ♥

Olivia has a wonderful disturbed face. (If you hadn't noticed already, I love all her faces. This is beside the point.)

"The man they call my father. He should've let me die. That was his mistake. But he was blinded because he loved me..."
AUGH.

Iiii love Nina and Olivia's relationship. So much. I really really want more of it in general.

"If you've read my file, then you know the truth about Peter's medical history."
I really wonder why Olivia didn't follow up on that. I guess she probably figured it wasn't relevant to anything now, and that Peter and/or Walter deserve their privacy, and it's not exactly unusual for Walter to say weird, slightly ominous things like that, but... argh.

Peter singing Walter to sleep does make me smile. STILL MY LEAST FAVORITE EPISODE.

Fringe 1x03 "The Ghost Network"

It's not like riding the bus was my favorite thing ever before, but man, this gave me a whole new reason to be paranoid about it the few times I had to in the past year or so.

I really, really loved the amber, though. It's just cool, and the visual of all those people trapped in it on the bus was one of the first images in Fringe that really stuck with me. I'm glad they used it in the Altverse, and that lends a whole new horror to this episode in that holy crap, all those people are still conscious.

"I wasn't gonna tell you this, but he said he loved me too."

Oh, Peter. You and your dark past which... mostly disappears soon after this. ♥

...awww, Peter's wearing a lab coat. THAT NEVER HAPPENS.

Man, the delivery of all of the information about Evelina Mendoza is so stilted and awkward. It's really kind of painful.

What's Walter playing when Olivia walks in? Does anyone know? It sounds familiar, but I can't place it. (Also, Walter's dramatic note-playing when Olivia says "Massive Dynamic" never fails to make me laugh.)

I really want to know what "the Angel Suicides in Baltimore" are. I'm honestly kind of disappointed that we will NEVER KNOW.

This poor guy. WAY TO RUIN HIS LIFE, WALTER.

Pfffft. I kind of love Peter and Walter shouting into each other's faces, Astrid kind of staring at the ground and trying to disappear, and Olivia walking in and having no idea what the hell's going on... I love their little family. (I also love when Peter's shouty.)

"Great, thank you, we get it." "Uhhh... I'm sorry, I don't think I do get it." "Well, neither do I, I just want him to stop."

Walter must have made the most confusing professor. Also awesome, and he was probably more coherent before he had chunks of his brain taken out, but man, I feel bad for his students.

"I pretty much knew this was what I wanted to do by the time I was nine." "When I was nine, I think I wanted to be a brontosaurus."

"Is this PoliSci 101?" "Not remotely."
OH GOD I LOVE THAT LITTLE INTERRUPTION SO MUCH. *Cackles*

"How in the world can you possibly know that?" "I majored in linguistics. My Latin's admittedly a bit fuzzy."
Peter, that's not, like, impossible knowledge to have. Uncommon, maybe, but I could probably work that out and my Latin is shit these days. That said, Astrid being awesomely competent, FUCK YES. ♥

...does anyone else sometimes get randomly distracted by Olivia's hair sometimes? Because... I totally do. (I'd say I want it, but I would make a terrible blonde.)

"Do you ever smile, Dunham?"
DO YOU, BROYLES? I'm just saying.

Peter playing piano at all is wonderful. Peter playing "Someone to Watch Over Me" kind of makes me melt.

Fringe 1x04 "The Arrival"

OHAI OBSERVER. OHAI NEW YORK. (...I miss New York. :C /beside the point)

OKAY, SERIOUSLY. WHAT IS THE BEACON? IF THAT DOESN'T COME UP IN S4, I AM GOING TO BE DEEPLY ANNOYED. ...and while we're at it, I'd like to know what the Observers are. I was working under the assumption that they're the First People, and... I guess they still might be, but the last episode of S3 raised more questions about the First People thing than it answered, and I'm not so sure about how the Observers are related anymore. I WANT TO KNOOOW.

Oh, Peter. You think you'll be able to leave. That's cute.

"He'd rather go back to St. Claire's than work here without you. He's said that more than once." "...was he wearing clothes at the time?"

"Well, what kind of man would take off on you the minute a can of magic space soup appears out of nowhere."

Olivia looks almost like she doesn't believe him when he tells her this is the last one, then he's leaving. Kind of disbelieving, and kind of disappointed/annoyed. XD

...I love that Fringe Division apparently has a whole room covered in photos of the Observer. Those people Broyles just kicked out... is trying to track Observers down their actual job? That would be hilarious.

"...just watching. Observing. Which is why we refer to him as the Observer."
YOU PEOPLE SUCK AT GIVING THINGS NAMES. I'M JUST SAYING.

Peeeeter. Being all concerned over Astrid. ♥ He is so good at being a caretaker-person. He's not a leader (he always defers to someone else - usually Olivia, though Walter can manage it with enough argument), or the lone wolf he pretends to be. He's happiest and best when he's looking out for the welfare of his family and letting someone else do the leadership thing. Thaaaat's another character trait I'm a sucker for, though almost exclusively in male characters. This shoooow. It's like it was custom-made just for me. ♥

...man, now I want a rootbeer float. :|

"You wouldn't be able to find him." "Well, of course not, because he's in the seventh dimension."
AND AS USUAL, NO ONE IS LISTENING TO PETER. ...except to yell at him. :C
I love Olivia, just watching Peter with that concerned expression, waiting for him to react... and that face after he leaves, like she wants to yell at Walter and she's forcing herself not to.

There goes the beacon. Never to be seen again, except in Walter's drug-induced noir fairytales. :\

"Apples! Bananas! Rhinoscerous!"
Oh, Peter. Very Doctory there. ♥ (The Doctor would drive Peter crazy.)

I like that Astrid gets to be angry at Walter. I like that she just completely ignores his apology and, y'know, the fact that he's there at all. She deserves it.

...LOL, IS THAT ONE OF THE PROMO PICTURES ON HIS CREDENTIALS? I THINK IT IS. THAT'S ADORABLE. YOU GUYS COULDN'T TAKE HIM ASIDE FOR TWO SECONDS TO TAKE A NEW PICTURE OF HIM?

"You know it, son, because I know it... You must adjust the way you consider communications. Ideas. Ideas can be absorbed through osmosis. Through proximity."
Have they ever done anything else with that? It's such an interesting concept, it's kind of disappointing if it hasn't been used again...

Fringe 1x05 "Power Hungry"

*Sigh* I am also not incredibly interested in this episode. I am both bored and annoyed by the guy with the powers.

...the boom when the elevator hits the ground is kind of cool, though.

I love that little hunchy-shoulders thing Olivia does when she's uncomfortable with a conversation. It is ADORABLE.

"Don't beat yourself up. You know you're good at that. That's a character flaw."
Charlie is still the best friend ever. I want a Charlie of my very own.

"I was thinking about that man. The one who tortured you."
YEAH, WALTER, JUST GO AHEAD AND BRING THAT UP CASUALLY. NOT LIKE IT'S BOUND TO BE A SORE SUBJECT OR ANYTHING.

As a side note, I love the uses of red and blue in this show. I just stopped to admire the flashing red and blue lights on Olivia and Walter's faces while they talk in the elevator. The colors in this scene are probably not super intentional because... it's just from police cars, but those colors are used really well in really interesting ways later on in the series.

Olivia's glasses are so cute. I want them.

Aww, hi, squinty sleepy Peter. ...and he just lets her in without a word from either of them. That is adorable. ♥ ♥ ♥ (His sleepy voice is just as cute as his expressions.)

"I wish you'd told me earlier, 'cause then I could've been working on it."
SO TOTALLY OKAY WITH THE BIRD PLAN. There is apparently no such thing as "impossible" in Olivia's mind, or at least no such thing as "so improbable it's not worth a try".

"So we're putting GPS chips on carrier pigeons to find a man who can control electricity. I have you to thank for that, don't I?" "Yeah. That's me."
HIS SMILE. BOTH THEIR SMILES. ♥

Awww, Peter is still looking a little beat up after the torture thing. ...you can tell how much attention I'm paying to this episode.

"Are you sure this is gonna work?" "of course not!"

"You stay here." "Whatever you say, boss."
OLIVIA, YOU SHOULD KNOW BETTER BY NOW.

There is something incredibly creepy about the way that guy raises his hands. He's not even DOING anything but it's creepy as fuck.

Olivia, maybe shouting at the guy to freeze was not the best plan. I mean, I get that he's dangerous, but a "FBI, we're here to help you" would probably not have gone amiss. Or... IDK, it might have, but it would've been at least worth a try.

Oh, Olivia. *Sigh* I'M SORRY YOU'RE DOOMED TO TRAGEDY.

...I think I'm done for the night. Time to play with writingthings for a while. (Chances I'm going to sleep before dawn? Slim to none. That's what [personal profile] thatrainbow gets for letting me sleep until four and bringing me coffee at 2 AM.)

IN DEFENSE OF ASTRID'S QUESTION RE: PITUITARY GLAND.

I would not have immediately jumped to that. I mean, when it was explained, I would've understood, but I wouldn't have just been like "oh, yes, the pituitary gland! It all makes sense now!"

...I know I've said this out loud, but I thought it was worth posting for posterity.
